Schloss Cappenberg, acquired in 1816 by Freiherr vom Stein from the Prussian state and thence to the present Kanitz family by descent, is one of the most well known examples of Westfalian monastic architecture from the baroque period. Changing art exhibitions are held in part of the castle, and one can take a relaxed walk in the surrounding deer park or wander in one of the largest single standing forests of the Münsterland.
