CAPPENBERGER
CASTLE HILL

During the time of the Premonstratensian monastery, during the late Middle Ages, Cappenberg had, like other monasteries in the region, a vineyard too. Towards the end of 18th century, viticulture was stopped in our area. â€‹

This was particularly due to the climate change in connection with the so-called "little ice age" from the 16th to the beginning of the 19th century. The name "Weinberg" has survived to this day, so we decided in 2017 to revive viticulture on the slope of the Cappenberg Castle hill and to plant Riesling vines on an area of 0.3 hectares.

In the future the grapes harvested here are going to be processed in the newly developed old brewery cellars on the estate.

Due to the relatively small vineyard, the number of bottles will be limited.  All our bottles will be numbered and can only be purchased in limited quantities per person.

The Cappenberger Schlossberg marks the northernmost vineyard in North Rhine-Westphalia.
